Crowdsourcing sparks new ideas

Crowdsourcing is opening up a whole new avenue for nonprofits that typically don't have a large marketing budget or manpower. Free advice from people with experience.

The Volunteer Center is currently testing the waters on a relatively new crowd-sourcing based site, sparked.com. Sparked bills itself as the world's first Microvolunteering network. "Easy, social, online volunteering for busy people," is its motto.

We gave it a try and posted this challenge: "What do we call our mixer? We're reaching out to the boomer generation and we're hosting a casual casual conversation starter around skills-based volunteerism. We want to engage more boomers to participate in our volunteer opportunities, especially those opportunities in line with the person's specific experiences."

With 13 days left to go, we've already received thoughtful responses. Help us narrow them down! Comment with your favorite.
