Skill Matching for Project Blueprint
Over the past several weeks, a diverse group of 40 professionals have spent their Tuesday evening hours in class at United Way's Project Blueprint.
These individuals come to United Way from large and small employers, nonprofits, and some own a local business. They have degrees in a wide range of subjects including engineering, teaching, business administration, public administration and more. The languages they speak include Spanish, Mandrin Chinese, Vietnamese, German, Korean, and Latin.
During Project Blueprint they have participated in workshops with topics including board responsibilities, Robert's Rules of Order, and group dynamics. They have made board visits throughout the community. As they approach the midpoint of the class, they are beginning to search for volunteer positions with boards and committees of West Michigan nonprofit agencies.
To help them reach their goal of placement in a volunteer position meeting their skills and interests, the Volunteer Center has compiled a list of nonprofit and governmental organizations that are currently seeking to diversify their volunteer pool. The list was shared with the class participants last week, and they will be contacting organizations directly. The organizations will be invited to a networking event with the class later in the summer.
