Something new this year...

We are excited about a new component of the Day of Caring this year.  We are offering skills-based (pro-bono) opportunities to companies that run campaigns so they can use their business skills to make an even bigger impact.

We have four projects in the areas of human resources, marketing, business plan development, public relations, business management and professional writing.

Steelcase has taken the lead with a commitment to provide assistance to God's Kitchen as the agency creates a business and marketing plan for a new Gallery & Painting Studio. The space will increase SOUP’S ON! revenue to support the mission of God’s Kitchen.

Other agencies offering skills-based projects this year are:

  • Grand Rapids Center for Ecumenism - Develop a marketing plan & communications tools for an action kit around a new campaign to raise rent and mortgage assistance funds.  Analyze resources from successful campaigns in two other communities and current communication tools. Also includes a program orientation about the Vision to End Homelessness. This is a full day project (all others are half day).
  • Grandville Ave Arts and Humanities - Volunteers will meet with key staff, with the goal of finding and retaining a volunteer volunteer coordinator (VVC); help write an appealing volunteer job description; determine needed attributes/skill set for the position; refine an advertisement; discuss networking solutions, and where to place the ad; brainstorm ways to retain the VVC.
  • Safe Haven Ministries - Volunteers will meet with key Safe Haven staff members and an advisory committee.  Volunteers will offer feedback on strategies, goals, and objectives, critique written materials and identify businesses to pilot this initiative. Safe Haven Ministries will provide coffee and lunch.

The Volunteer Center will provide special recognition to the companies that embrace these tasks including:

• Special mention in our press release
• News stories on the web site and eNews
• Article(s) in The Rapidian

It's a great way to use the specialized talents of your workforce while helping us LIVE UNITED! If you're interested in taking on one of these important tasks, please see the project list and selection form at http://www.hwmuwvc.org/DOC-company-signup
